Understory Labs is a software lab. We build small, focused tools, each one shaped around a specific problem, designed to do one thing well, and built to be used by both people and the AI agents working alongside them.

Most software tries to become a platform. We're more interested in what happens when you go the other direction. Many small things, each one sharp enough to be useful on its own, but designed to connect when it makes sense.

The name comes from ecology. The understory is the layer of a forest beneath the canopy, where new growth happens in filtered light. Not the tallest part of the forest, but where the diversity is. That's the idea.
